Archaeological investigative work to start at Peddimore
A programme of archaeological investigative work is set to begin across parts of the Peddimore site following Birmingham City Council’s approval of a planning application for the new employment park.
Prior to the start of infrastructure and landscaping works, a specialist archaeology contractor, CFA, will be conducting the surveys on behalf of IM Properties from September 11th 2019 for a period of up to four weeks.
The work will take place on land to the east of Wishaw Lane using a digger to excavate trial trenches.
Each trench will be approximately 1.8m wide and about 50m long, will be positioned using GPS survey equipment and will enable the archaeologists to locate and assess any archaeology present.
Once a trench has been investigated by the archaeologists – and if nothing of interest is found – it will be covered over with the same topsoil, lightly compacted and the land restored.
Should any significant finds be made, the project will team will share information with the public where appropriate.
The programme of archaeological work has been agreed with Birmingham City Council, its archaeology team and the local farmer, and the appointed contractors will work to ensure any disruption to local residents is minimised.
